Minister of State of Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD) Visits HVAP Project Areas

Nepal, Surkhet14. Nov. 2016 | The Honorable Minister of State of Ministry of Agricultural Development (MoAD), Ms. Radhika Tamang pursued an opportunity to visit IFAD funded and MoAD executed High Value Agriculture Project (HVAP) from 11-13 Nov. 2016 at Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot and Jumla districts. The Hon. Minister and representatives from MoAD were welcomed by Mr. Rajendra Prasad Bhari, Project Manager of HVAP and accompanied for the field observation. The Hon. Ministry visited HVAP promoted Ginger Processing Center of Organic Mountain Flavour and Turmeric Processing Center of Bhattarai Masala Udyog at Surkhet and discussed with operator and promoter about the market potentiality and areas of scope. The Minister suggested to promote and expand production of organic ginger and turmeric in HVAP areas for the betterment of resource poor communities.





Similarly, the Hon. Minister visited Karnali Multi-Purpose Agriculture Cooperate at Siyala, Dailkeh and participated on interaction program. In fact, the area is potential for vegetable production and groups and cooperatives have been supported by the project so as to promote vegetable production since last couple of years which has controlled out-migration. However, lack of technical knowledge and low market price of produced vegetable found major constraints. Hence, the Hon Minister directed to the responsible authorities, including HVAP, to expand technical services and market management in this area.



Similarly, on the visit in Jumla district, the Hon. Minister participated on the event organized by District Agriculture Development Office (DADO), Jumla, which was organized  to share ongoing agriculture related project interventions in Jumla district. On this forum, Mr. Rajendra Prasad Bhari, Project Manager of HVAP duly informed overall HVAP interventions especially on interventions made on  production and marketing of Apple in Jumla district. The Hon. Minister and team were also taken to visit HVAP promoted apple cellar store, discussed with women groups, and participated on cultural programmes organized by the groups.





After the visit, the Hon. Minister shared her overall impression about the field through her visit notes. The Hon. Minister found very much impressed with HVAP project modality, approach, current status and progress as seen in the field asshared by the Project Manager.



“Similarly, the minister was delighted with the aspiration of the project as it has developed the culture of entrepreneurship among the farmers/producers, strengthened private sectors and assured market of the high value commodities at Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot and Jumla districts. The Hon. Minister highly appreciated on the fact that HVAP has been struggling to establish identical model of value chain development and inclusive business at the remote districts of Karnali regions through developing capacities of small holder farmers and creating enabling environment to promote public private partnership of inclusive growth”, as mentioned on the visit notes.





While interacting with Project Manager of HVAP, Regional Director of Agriculture of Mid-West, Mr. Shiva Narayan Chaudhary and other district based government officials and political parties, the honorable Minister stated that the role of HVAP is highly appreciable so as to bring rural communities into the mainstream of value chain development; hence, she anticipated provisioning  of various service delivery mechanisms to the betterment of resource poor communities from the project in a easiest way in the coming days.
