Training/Workshop on VCD and IB Organised

High Value Agriculture Project in Hill and Mountain Areas (HVAP), Project Management Unit, Surkhet organised a four days training/workshop on Value Chain Development (VCD) and Inclusive Business (IB) from 9 to 12 January 2012 in Birendranagar, Surkhet.


The training was interactive and comprised slide presentations, group work and role plays. Altogether 22 officials from District Agriculture Development Office, District Livestock Services Office, District Forest Office, Mid-Western Regional Agriculture Directorate, Mid-Western Regional Livestock Services Directorate, Raising Income for Small and Medium Farmers Project, and HVAP participated in the training. The participants actively participated in the training and were involved in all the group works. The training/workshop was facilitated by Mr. Bhusan Shah, Mr. Bibek Shrestha, Ms. Monisha Rajbhandari and Mr. Sanjeev Shrestha. The Programme Coordinator of SNV, Dr. Surendra Joshi presented a case study as a guest lecturer. The facilitators shared their practical experiences and case studies related to the value chains. Further the participants in different groups exercised mapping value chains of different subsectors (Himali group with Apple VC, Pahadi group with Ginger VC and Terai group with Poultry VC), worked out the possible constraints/opportunities in the VC and prepared strategies and activities accordingly. The resource persons also shared an introductory overview of the IB approach in the value chain which was new to all participants in the workshop.


In the closing session, at end of the fourth day, Dr. Tapendra Bohara representing the participants, Regional Agriculture Director Mr. Lekh Nath Acharya and Regional Director of Livestock Services Dr. Amar Shah and HVAP Project Manager Mr. Rajendra Bhari shared their views on VCD and the training.
