In order to further prioritise the 20 value chains identified during VC prioritisation workshop solely on market perspective and identify the right value chain having market potential, the regional and national level agribusiness opportunity workshops were held at Nepalgunj and Kathmandu respectively on 26 June and 12 July 2011. The workshops also aimed to ensure market players ownership in identified VCs and their participation in the analysis and sustainability of the process outcomes. The validation and prioritisation were done through participatory approach bringing market related stakeholders in one platform with lecture presentations for providing theoretical and conceptual frameworks, for application in a subsequent practical exercise/group work to accomplish the objectives.

Likewise, there were 53 and 66 participants particularly market related stakeholders representing government agencies, commodity association and agribusiness involved in vegetables, fruits, spices, NTFPs/MAP and dairy and meat products of regional and national market during the regional and national level workshops respectively.

In the regional workshop, the participants were divided into five thematic groups as: 1. Fruits and vegetables, 2. NTFPs/MAPs and spices, 3. Livestock, 4. Vegetable seed and 5. Policy groups based on the nature of business/work they are currently involved in. The group prioritised and ranked the 20 value chains belonging to respective categories with justification for prioritisation.

Similarly, in the national level workshop, the participants were divided into six thematic groups as 1. Fruits and vegetables, 2. NTFPs/MAPs and spices  3. Livestock products 4. Seed, 5. Handicraft/ Miscellaneous and 6. Policy groups. The groups prioritised and ranked the value chains under respective categories.

Besides, the policy group documented the issues in relation to market promotion and trade policies also. The groups also identified the commodity specific prospects, major constraints and policy gaps for market promotion and provided suggestions on the agribusiness involvement framework within the project.

The workshops were successful in developing linkages among each other and also created space to work in close collaboration following an 'Inclusive Business' (IB) approach. The workshops were well appreciated by the participants for making the process participatory from the beginning of the project and they also committed to work jointly with the project.
