Interaction with journalists on HVAP progress

An interaction programme with local and national journalists based in Surkhet was organised at the Regional Directorate of Agriculture by the High Value Agriculture Project in Hill and Mountain Areas (HVAP) on 10 September 2012 to orient them on the project activities and progress. The representatives of major local dailies, national dailies, local FMs and national radio participated in the programme.

On the occasion, Mr Rajendra Bhari, the Project Manager of HVAP presented on the project’s approach, modality, goals, objectives and progress till date. Senior Agriculture Officer, Mr Hari Prasad Gurung elaborated on the expression of interest (EOI) sought by the project from traders, agribusinesses, cooperatives, and farmer groups to collaborate with the project on the value chain development of high value agriculture products namely apples, vegetable seeds, ginger, off-season vegetables, turmeric, goat meat and timur. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion between journalists and the HVAP team. The team clarified the concerns of the journalists.

The interaction programme was successful in disseminating the project’s message to the target audience through the news covered by the national and local dailies, and the radio stations. The news on the project’s goals and objectives were highlighted by most of the newspapers.
